The Washington, DC area's only Underwater Hockey team.

DC Tournament: June 27 - 29, 2003

We are pleased to announce we hare holding this year's Underwater Hockey Nationals tournament. This year the tournament will be held the weekend of June 27-29, 2003.

The tournament will take place at a world class facility. The pool is uniformly 8 feet deep and has a fast tile bottom identical to the bottom of Texas A&M pool where the Texas Open was held recently. There will be two playing surfaces.

Travel arrangements should be easy as there are three area airports (IAD - Dulles, DCA - National, & BWI - Baltimore Washington International) to choose from if you wish to fly.

Dulles is the closest - about 30 minutes from the pool, but it is also the most expensive. At National Airport (also called Regan National) prices range, but in case you are considering exploring DC, you should know that National is Metro-accessible (although the pool is not). Although it is a full hour and 15 minutes from the pool, BWI is the cheapest of the three. Notably, BWI is one of the national testing grounds for new airport security programs. As such it is usually overstaffed.
If time is not an issue and the cost savings are considerable, you should consider flying into BWI and then carpooling with your or other teams.

Tournament Summary

Pool location: George Mason University Aquatic & Fitness Center. (Map)

Pool time: 11am - 8:30pm Friday
9am - 9:30pm Saturday
8am - 5pm Sunday

Practice/Warm-up: 8:00pm - 10:00pm Thursday

Registration: 8:00pm - 10:00pm Thursday
9:00-10:30am Friday

Captain's Meeting: 9:30am Friday poolside

Tournament Format: Two playing surfaces with A, B and C divisions.
Friday: 4 pods play Round Robin (3-4 games) for initial division seeding.
Saturday: divisional round robin play (4-5 games) with top two teams from B and C divisions moving up for playoffs.
Sunday: Full playoffs for A and B and C divisions.

Cost: $800/team. All deposits are in so the balance is due by June 21st. Teams who send in their deposit after June 21st will have a $100 late fee assesed.

Tournament party: Oh yeah! The awards ceremony and party will be Sunday night at 7:30pm. Banquet cost will be $27/person. This includes a full buffet dinner, soft drinks and entertainment. A 3 hour open beer/wine bar option is available for $10 extra. Payment for Buffet and Open Bar Option are due with team fees (June 21st)

Lodging: We have reserved a block of hotel rooms at a local Holiday Inn. It's a very nice facility and the negotiated rate is $67/night based on double occupancy, but reservations must be made by June 5th. This is a great rate for DC in the summertime. Women's Division: There will be a seperate Women's division. If you are interested in participating in it, please e-mail Agnes Debrunner to let her know you are interested. Also, please include an additional $15 in your tournament fees to cover the extra games. Agnes will let you know if the price changes.
